Frequently Asked Questions

Answers about our trailers, compliance, customization, and delivery across South Africa.

What type of trailers does LF Trailers manufacture?

LF Trailers manufactures Category O2 trailers — trailers with a Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) greater than 750 kg and up to 3 500 kg. These are towable by cars and pickup trucks. We do not manufacture large semi-trailer combinations.

What does NRCS-accredited and MIB-registered mean?

LF Trailers is accredited by the National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications (NRCS) and registered with the Motor Industry Board (MIB) as a trailer manufacturer. This means our builds comply with South African compulsory specifications and can be homologated with a Letter of Authority (LOA) where applicable.

Are your trailers NATIS-registerable?

Yes. As a licensed manufacturer of new trailers, registerable builds are supplied for NATIS (National Traffic Information System) registration. Each trailer receives a data plate with VIN, GVM, and tare mass per National Road Traffic Act requirements. Site-only trailers are clearly noted where they are not intended for public-road registration.

Can I customise my trailer?

Every LF Trailer can be customised. During your quote consult we discuss deck dimensions, tank material, pump type, mounting points, and any specialist fittings your job requires. Use the customisation field on the quote form to describe your needs.

What tank options are available on tanker trailers?

Most tanker trailers are available with polyethylene or steel tanks. Exceptions include the 2 000L, 3 000L, and 5 000L diesel variants which are steel-tank only. The 5 000L diesel trailer is a site trailer and is not intended for public-road registration.

What pump options are available?

Diesel and water tanker trailers can be fitted with a hand pump or 12V electric pump. Specify your preference in the quote request or discuss options during your consult.

What axles do you use?

All LF Trailers feature 1.6-ton axles as standard. Load capacity and GVM are configured to your trailer type and remain within Category O2 limits unless otherwise specified for site-only builds.

Do you deliver across South Africa?

Yes. LF Trailers serves customers across South Africa from our West Rand, Gauteng facility. We also occasionally supply into other parts of Africa. Include your delivery province in the quote form for accurate logistics planning.

How long does a quote take?

We respond to quote requests within 48 hours. Complex custom builds may require a follow-up call to confirm specifications before final pricing.

How long does it take to build a trailer?

Lead times depend on the trailer type and current production schedule. Standard builds are typically faster; heavily customised trailers may take longer. Your quote will include an estimated timeframe.

What information should I include in a quote request?

Include the trailer type, intended use, tank or pump preferences, delivery location, and any customisation requirements. The more detail you provide, the more accurate your quote will be.

Can private individuals order trailers?

Yes. While most of our customers are contractors, farmers, and businesses, we also build for private individuals who need a tough, compliant trailer for personal use.
